DESCRIPTION OF THE COURSE

During pregnancy, your body goes through a lot of changes.  The superficial abdominal muscle (rectus abdominis) may separate at midline due to softening of the linea alba, which is the connective tissue that holds the two sides of the muscle together. The separation of the rectus abdominis is referred to as “diastasis recti.”  This may present as tenting when you lift your head, and it can lead to low back pain, pelvic pain, and pelvic floor dysfunction.  If you had separation of your abdominals during or after pregnancy, it will remain separated until you strengthen your deep abdominal muscles in the appropriate way to facilitate closure.

Diastasis rehabilitation is individualized for every person. During this course participants will receive an assessment of their diastasis and will participate in exercises designed to promote closure of diastasis recti, during which they will receive hands-on correction to ensure proper form. Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing in which they feel comfortable doing floor exercises.  This evidence-based workshop is designed for every person to have an individually-tailored program in a group setting and is taught by a licensed physical therapist.

Participants are encouraged to contact Amy at amanda@n2pt.org or 303-954-8423 with any questions.
